A large and attractive pearlware glazed, blue and white transferware soup tureen stand, printed with a pattern that appears to depict an Eastern King mounted on a horse, being led by a courtier. To both sides, there are Grecian type structures and a sundial.
Coysh and Henrywood in “The Dictionary of Blue & White Printed Pottery, 1780-1880”, Vol. 2, p.234 have given this pattern the title “The Sundial”. The maker is as yet unidentified but the quality of the design and printing suggest one of the better makers, c1830. Nice blue-tinted pearlware glaze.
