A superb and huge Georgian period Spode pearlware glazed meat platter transfer printed in the popular “Geranium” pattern, the border with an amusing feature making it look like there are worried faces peeping out!
This pattern has been more recently reproduced in the Spode’s Blue Room range of popular early patterns. Original pieces are scarce, especially of this size and condition. Blue tinted pearlware glaze.
Impressed and printed factory marks and decorator’s mark, c1820’s.
Approx. 21″/53cm x 15.75″/43cm. 2.85kg.
It is in remarkably good condition. Good clear prints. No glaze crazing. The odd minor utensil mark to the face and more expected scratching to the base. The odd tiny manufacturing flaw. A little faint discolouration to the edge only and I’ve found a small 8mm glaze scrape to the edge. A fine example which could easily be put to use today.
