A fine and scarce large blue transferware Porter mug or tankard in “The French Hornblower” pattern, an interesting mix of African, Chinese and European elements. Unusual ear-shaped handle with thumb rest. Brown painted rim and blue-tinted pearlware glaze.
Unmarked, unknown maker, although collector’s label suggests Dudson, c1815-25
Approx. 5.5″/14.1cm x 4.5″/11.5cm diameter.
It is in excellent condition, just fine glaze crazing and a little fritting to the edge of the handle thumb rest, as shown.
